Lower Cards a Bogey-Free 63 to Join the Leaders
Justin Lower fired a bogey-free, 9-under 63 to surge into a share of the first-round lead at the World Wide Technology Championship at Mayakoba. Lower's stellar performance included three birdies on each nine at El Camaleón Golf Club in Playa del Carmen, Mexico.
A Four-Way Tie at the Top
Lower shares the top spot with a trio of players: defending champion Viktor Hovland, former champion Brendon Todd, and Scotland's Robert MacIntyre, who eagled the par-5 13th hole.
A Tight Leaderboard After Round 1
The leaderboard is tightly packed after the first round, with several players just a stroke behind the leaders. Among them are Aaron Wise, who finished second last year, and former Masters champion Danny Willett, both carding 64s. A group of eight players, including Joel Dahmen and Wyndham Clark, sit another shot back at 6 under.
Lower's Pursuit of PGA Tour Victory
Lower, who earned his PGA Tour card for this season, is still seeking his first victory. He finished second at the Fortinet Championship in Napa, California, in September and will be looking to capitalize on his strong start in Mexico.
Notable Performances and Upcoming Rounds
Other notable scores included Tony Finau opening with a 67, while Mexico's Abraham Ancer struggled with a 75. The tournament continues with the second round on Friday, with the leaders teeing off in the afternoon.
In his final start on TOUR, @JimmyHardK finishes birdie-birdie @WMPhoenixOpen.
