Wyndham Clark: Not All LIV Golfers Deserve PGA Tour Return

The ongoing saga between the PGA Tour and LIV Golf continues, with the question of player movement between the two circuits a hot topic. 2023 U.S. Open champion Wyndham Clark recently shared his thoughts on whether LIV Golfers should be allowed back on the PGA Tour, and it seems he has a nuanced take.

Clark on LIV Golf Player Re-Entry: "Depends Who It Is"

In a recent interview, Clark expressed support for some LIV Golf players returning to the PGA Tour, but with a caveat. The key factor, according to Clark, is a player's "pedigree" on the PGA Tour.

"It depends who it is," Clark stated. "Guys who've built careers that make them lifelong PGA Tour players deserve the right to come back."

He elaborated, citing golfers like Dustin Johnson, Phil Mickelson, and Brooks Koepka as examples. "These guys are winners, Major champions, future Hall-of-Famers. They've earned the right to play wherever they want, because of their skill level."

Not Everyone Gets a Second Chance

However, Clark wasn't as enthusiastic about LIV Golfers who haven't established themselves on the PGA Tour.

"The guys who left without a strong PGA Tour track record are the ones I have a tougher time with," he explained. "They made their choice, and there should be consequences."

Clark's Underlying Point: It's About Competition

Clark's comments ultimately highlight the importance of competition within professional golf. While acknowledging the achievements of established players who opted for LIV Golf, he seems to suggest that the Tour needs to prioritize maintaining its strongest competitor pool.

Whether Clark's perspective becomes a factor in future negotiations between the PGA Tour and LIV Golf remains to be seen. However, his views do add another layer to the complex discussions about the future of professional golf.
